Hello y’all, I am Jessie. The journey into leather work was not a straight path nor something I envisioned myself falling into. I am a Videographer & Photographer and like many in this trade, travel and adventures are something we are always seeking.
From deserts to mountains and everything in between, traveling and capturing those adventures have been all I have known for the past five years. Creating through a visual medium is all I had known, something about handcrafted goods has always been intriguing to me.
Leather work Is something I always wanted to try but didn’t think I would have the skill to make good work. It wasn’t until I saw the movie Walter Mitty that everything began to look so clear. This movie is about a man who lives a boring life but consistently is trying to escape his boring life by ‘zoning out’ into daydreams. It isn’t until he has to choose to either give up and lose his job or go on one of the greatest adventures of his life.
In this movie, there is a wallet shown and it is a big catalyst to the film, so naturally, I wanted a wallet similar to it, so I decided I would start leather craft to make this wallet. I fell in love with the craft and became obsessed with getting better and finding my creative voice through leatherwork.
Life is not a straight path. Rough points and tension are natural and this adds beauty to life. This is why leather is an awesome medium for me, because perfect is boring. Scuffs, and wear & tear will make any product more beautiful and give it a story. It makes it uniquely yours.
